A thousand years have passed since an evil sorcerer banished the Caldar people from their home in Caldaria. Their hopes to return home rest on a young woman who may be the most powerful Caldar in a millennium. Myla, a former Caldar outcast, must reconcile the Caldar's past before she can unravel the secrets to their future. This proves difficult, as mysterious forces thwart her every effort. Caldaria's fate hangs in the balance as Myla decides whom she can trust and whether she should proceed. The Vision of Caldaria is the first book in a fast-paced adventure trilogy where Myla and her friends confront self-doubt, fear, and prejudice as they explore Caldaria and try to prevent the destruction of the Caldar people.

A friend recommended this book to me and though I am not familiar with the fantasy genre, I could not stop reading once I opened the book. The Vision of Caldaria explores a world of magic through the eyes of Myla, our main protagonist, and her friends Zira, Paul, and Neph as they slowly unravel the mysteries of the past and the predictions of the future. The author excels at building a set of complex, multi-dimensional characters who together set the stage for an epic adventure. The plot is presented in non-chronological sequence, with scenes from the past intermingled between scenes from the present, and very often, HUGE twists and turns keep the story interesting and engaging. I will not write any spoilers here other than to state the cliche that things aren't always what they seem.

Also interesting are the political overtones and commentary in the story. For those of you who found a certain fantasy series about a boy wizard who wears oversized glasses to be a lackluster children's book, this series offers a deeper, darker (and in my opinion, more entertaining) read. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the sequel.

The Vision of Caldaria The Caldaria Trilogy Book 1 eBook JF Slade Reviews

This is a first book in a series of 3. It is an awesome read and kept you guessing at the motivations of the characters. The characters are well developed and you feel for them and want them to succeed. When I finished the first book I couldn't wait for the second one to come out.
Visions of Caldaria is a great example of a coming of age story set in magical fantasy world. A very thoughtful, intelligently, and well thought out vision of an idyllic world, one that I wish I could visit. On a more serious note You could say that there are some parallels to our own world in relation to social divides between the Haves and Have-Nots" mainly in relation to cultural opportunities, and the discrimination that this fosters, which I found interestingly thought provoking to say the least.

All in all I found this Fantasy Fiction a real page turner, at 444 pages it just flew by, but not so fast that I didn't fully enjoy the wonderfully integrated textures and backdrops of a world of; Small Cottages with warm fireplaces, cool drinks from a forest stream, the smell of baking bread wafting in the air. All along with the whimsically protective trees of the magical forest. I found all the main characters very easy to identify with, and a joy to read about. The melancholy of childhood lost is also nicely dealt with so as to punctuate the exhilaration of young love and friendship. In this authors first Fantasy outing the magical and challenging adventures seemingly await the protagonist around every corner, and are a total joy in their unpredictability.

Whether you're an imaginative ten year old or an old, but young at heart Fantasy fan, I think everyone will enjoy this uplifting charmer, from an up and coming writer of fictional magic.

Five magical stars!
Quite good. It kept making me want to know what was going to happen next.
I got The Vision of Caldaria for Christmas this year, and was planning on reading it on the plane. Unfortunately, I picked it up a couple days before the flight and couldn't stop reading; I think that I managed to not be completely antisocial over the holidays, but it was hard, and it should go without saying that I didn't have anything to read by the time I got on the plane. The Vision was delightful, captivating, and I found the world it described enchanting. I was sad when I got to the end of the book (saying goodbye to well-developed characters is always hard), and I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!
